Overview of IHMAA Programs

Welcome to Immaculate Heart of Mary Athletics!

Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church athletic programs offer student- athletes the opportunity to compete in Soccer, Volleyball, Cheerleading, and Basketball in a semi-competitive environment. Our program emphasizes fundamental skills development in a christian atmosphere, stressing participation, leadership, team concepts, sportsmanship and character. We are a proud partner with the Play Like A Champion Today program.


All Immaculate Heart of Mary athletic programs are open to all youth of the parish, students of IHM Catholic School.

 

FALL SPORTS

Volleyball

Volleyball is offered for girls in grades 5-8. Teams will be formed for both 5th/6th and 7th/8th grade girls volleyball.  Girls compete in the Catholic Metro Volleyball League (CMVL) with games played against other Catholic schools in the archdiocese.  Registration will begin in early April.  Practices start in July.  Teams will play approximately 10 games beginning in August with the season concluding in early October.

Soccer:

Students grades 1st through 8th will play within the Catholic Metro League Soccer of Atlanta.  The CMSL hosts competitive non-profit youth soccer in cooperation with other North Atlanta Catholic Schools and Parishes. CMSL soccer players’ experience the fun of teamwork and competition in a faith-based environment.  Practice will begin mid August with games starting late August.  The season will run until mid-to-late October. 

Teams will be formed based on grade level and formed into the 6 divisions listed below.  

1) Kindergarten: This division is co-ed and will play on Friday nights at IHM field.  The kids will spend the first half of the time learning skills(passing, dribbling, etc.) and the second half split up into different teams to play against each other in scrimmages. 
2) 1st Grade: separate boys and girls teams.
3) 2nd Grade: separate boys and girls teams.
4) Combined 3/4th Grade(U10): separate boys and girls teams.
5) Combined 5/6th Grade(U12): separate boys and girls teams.
6) Combined 7/8th Grade(U14): separateboys and girls teams.


The last 5 divisions(1st grade through 8th) will have one practice a week and one game a week, usually on Saturdays. Game times will vary. The teams will play home games at IHM on the back field and away games against the other teams in the league(OLA, St. Jude, etc.).

WINTER SPORTS

Basketball:

Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church basketball program for Kindergarten through 8th grade. 

Kindergarten athletes are exposed to the sport through developmental sessions held on Friday afternoons. 1st/2nd Grade form co-ed teams of 1st and 2nd graders that will have one practice a week and one game a week (Friday night) at IHM. ***Please note we are limited to the first 50 registrants* 

In grades 3-8, students participate in the Catholic Metro League of Atlanta (CMLA) with games played against other Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Atlanta.  Practices will be held once a week with one game per week.  

Basketball registration begins mid August.  Practices begin early October.  Games will be held from November till the end of January, with breaks for the holidays.  Athletes in grades 5 - 8 can expect to play in an end of season CMLA tournament early in February.

Cheerleading/Spirit Squad:

Immaculate Heart of Mary offers cheerleading for girls grades 3 through 8. Squads will cheer for home basketball games only.  No cheerleading experience is needed.  Registration will open mid August.  Practices will begin in October and the season will last through January.

SPRING SPORTS


Soccer:

Boys and girls in Grades K-8 participate in the Catholic Metro Soccer League (CMSL).  Games are played both at home and away at Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Atlanta.  Spring Soccer registration will open late November/ early December.  Practices will start in February and games will be held March through early May.  For more detailed information regarding divisions please refer to soccer under Fall Sports.
