Game Cancellations

Below is the league policy regarding game cancellations.  Please remember that it is always your right as a parent to withhold your child from play if you feel it necessary.

  • At game time the Center Referee assigned to each field will make the final decision as to whether a game is canceled.
  • Coaches or players can NOT make the determination to cancel a game due to inclement weather.
  • Coaches or players can NOT proceed to play a game after it has been canceled.
  • In certain cases, the Board of Directors may decide to cancel games due to circumstances out of our control, such as excessive heat, tornado warnings, unsafe field conditions, etc...

As soon as possible after the decision is made, a notice will be posted on the league Facebook page. Ultimately, it is the coach's responsibility to contact their players.

Normal forfeiture rules apply if a team does not have the minimum number of players at the start of a game that has not been officially canceled by the Center Referee.  Please call your coach if you are in doubt or show up at the field at the time of the scheduled game and have your coach ask the Center Referee if the game has been canceled.  Make up times for canceled games will be set by the Director of Scheduling.

Lightning Policy

The safety of players and participants is of utmost importance. Soccer fields can be a dangerous place during severe weather.

  • You are in danger if you can see lightning.
  • You are in danger from lightning if you can hear thunder.
  • Lightning often travels sideways as far as 10 miles and can strike away from any rainfall even when skies are blue.

In the event of a storm, games and/or practices must be stopped and suspended until the danger has passed using the following minimum criteria:

  1. The sighting of a lightning flash or the hearing of the sound of thunder shall be reason enough to immediately stop and suspend a game or a practice session;
    1. Do not wait until it rains.
    2. Do not try to reach the end of a period or the end of a game.
  2. Coaches shall take their players to a safe location upon suspension of a game and/or a practice session;
  3. Following suspension of a game, the referees shall promptly leave the field to a safe location;
  4. Play and/or practice shall not be resumed prior to 30 minutes after the last sighting of lightning or the last sound of thunder heard.
