Southeastern Club Champions League Announced!

Southern Soccer Academy FAQ’s - DA, NPL, SCCL, Georgia Soccer (Athena/Classic Teams)

What are the different leagues for SSA and what do they mean?

1.Development Academy Program (SSA Boys U12-U14) Run by U.S. Soccer
Currently US Boys DA is the highest level of soccer in the United States and has the top percentage of players.  Find out more: http://www.ussoccerda.com/overview-what-is-da

2. National Premier League  (SSA Boys and Girls 12U-19U)  Run by US Club Soccer
NPL currently allows players to be scouted on a regional/national level. Find out more: http://usclubsoccer.org/about/vision-mission-core-values/

3. Southeastern Club Champions League (SSA Boys and Girls 12U - 19U) Run by US Club Soccer
SCCL has been formed in response to an overwhelming need for a more manageable environment than is presently available in the gap between localized grassroots soccer and national level play.  Provides a solution to this need in an affordable, family friendly way. Offers Exposure to Player Development Program and ID Program. Find out more: http://www.ssaelite.com/Default.aspx?tabid=347808

4. Georgia Soccer (9U-12U Academy, 13U-19U Select) - Run by state association
GA Soccer provides league for all other SSA teams, including all SSA divisions and club affiliates.  The league provides competitive soccer and professional coaching.  Find out more: http://www.georgiasoccer.org GA Soccer also provides a recreational soccer league where anyone can play, no matter the skill level.  (12U-19U Recreational Soccer)

What does this mean for SSA as a whole to participate in these leagues?

Its a strict qualification process to be accepted into DA (Boys Only) and NPL (Boys and Girls), SSA has been chosen as one of few clubs in Georgia to participate and place teams in these leagues.  The leagues provide player opportunities for our elite players to be identified regionally and nationally as well as opportunities to participate in exclusive showcases, tournaments, and player ID camps/clinics.

As far as the new SCCL, Simon Davey, Executive Director/Southern Soccer Academy says:

"To be part of the inaugural season of the SCCL(Southeastern Clubs Champions League)with seven of the biggest clubs in the Southeast is exciting. The SCCL will provide our members meaningful quality competition right on our doorstep with the opportunity to also compete regionally and nationally. To us, a league with Concorde Fire, UFA, NasaTophat, CESA, Busa, Vestavia, GSA, and SSA says it all”

What does this mean for SSA Dekalb in particular?

All of our teams currently play in either Georgia Soccer’s academy or select program.  There are no changes to this structure.  However, as several of our players have already been exposed to both the DA and the NPL, the addition of SCCL will further provide player opportunities for our players to be exposed to the higher levels of our club.

Currently no club locally has a similar structure that allows players to be exposed to these leagues.  NPL and SCCL allow players from our location to train and play locally as well as train and play with our higher level teams.

This past season, we had several players identified and play for the NPL league and elite teams.  We have also had a few of the players identified as potential selections for the Boys DA Program.  With the addition of the SCCL, we expect more players to be identified and take part in the new league.
