As you get your team rosters, please reach out to the parents and remind them to purchase the player uniforms at Soccer Pro. The uniforms are $40 per set and include a reversible jersey, shorts and socks.  Parents also must make sure players have soccer cleats, shin guards and balls for practice.

In addition, please remind parents owing birth certificate or pictures, to submit copies of player birth certificates and pictures to their profile or email it to registrar at [email protected].  If player registrations are not complete, registration cards will not be ready in time which will restrict their ability to play in the seeding tournaments or any games thereafter.

SafeSport

On February 14th, 2018, the President signed the Protecting Young Victims from Sexual Abuse and Safe Sport Authorization Act of 2017 which is aimed at preventing and reporting child abuse in youth sports by expanding the definition of mandatory reporters and requiring organizations to provide enhanced training, develop and enforce policies, mechanisms, and procedures to prevent, report, and respond to abuse of athletes.

The Law has a three-pronged approach:

  1. Any adult interacting with amateur athletes in the program has a duty to report abuse and or suspected abuse within a 24 hour period.EVERY ADULT IS A MANDATORY REPORTER.

  2. The statute of limitations is extended for up to 10 years after a victim realizes he or she was abused.

  3. Limits an athlete under the age of 18 from being alone with an adult who is not their parent.

*What is an amateur athlete?Any child or minor under the age of 18.The legislation is available for download (click here).

What are the requirements for Cal North?

As a result of the new federal law, SafeSport training is mandatory for all adults participating in an official capacity with their league/club. This includes but is not limited to team administrators, volunteers, board members, and staff. Team administrators are required to register online with their league or club. Upon completing their registration, they will receive a confirmation email containing a link that can be used to start their SafeSport training.

Clicking the link will take the adult back to their member account where they will be able to access their training.

If the team administrator does not receive the confirmation email, e.g. it goes to spam, the team administrator can go to their league or club registration site, and click on the Member Login button to return to their member account where they can also access their training.

If a team administrator has already completed their SafeSport training outside of Cal North’s system, they have the option to upload their certificate of completion. Otherwise, team administrators should copy the access code and continue. Please note, team administrators using Cal North’s system to complete their training must work through the SafeSport landing page in order for the validation and approval to be passed to Cal North. Team administrators must use the same first name, last name, date of birth, gender, AND email in both US Soccer Connect and SafeSport in order for the approval to be entered in US Soccer Connect.

Reporting Mechanism

Under the SafeSport Act, all adult participants are mandatory reporters and legally responsible to report suspicion of abuse. Failure to do so in the State of California is a crime, and punishable by up to six months in jail and/or fines of up to $1,000.

Please note, the law requires that a person have a “reasonable suspicion” that a child has been the subject of child abuse or neglect. Definite proof that a child may be subject to abuse or neglect is not required.

When physical or sexual abuse is suspected, reports must be made to each of the below:

  1. Appropriate local law enforcement or county child welfare agency pursuant to your county of residence requirements, e.g. Police or Sheriff’s Department, County Probation Department, or County Welfare Department/County Child Protective Services

  2. Cal North State Risk Manager

  3. National Governing Body (NGB)

All other forms of misconduct such as emotional abuse, bullying, hazing, or harassment must be reported to your League or Club Risk Manager.

All reports of misconduct are taken with the utmost sensitivity and as discreetly as possible. Reporting may be made anonymously at no cost. Cal North does not tolerate retaliation of any kind. No individual who makes a good faith report will be subject to retaliation, including harassment, or any adverse employment or participation consequence, as a result of making a report.

In the event that you make a report of suspected child abuse to law enforcement, the U.S. Center for SafeSport, or another authority, we encourage you not to make an anonymous report simply because an anonymous report will not provide you with evidence that you discharged your mandatory reporting obligation.
