About the Smyrna Soccer Club Winter Futsal League
Smyrna Soccer Club is moving indoors in December, January and February for the inaugural winter futsal league. The primary focus of the winter futsal league is to provide an opportunity for each player to improve his or her overall technical ability within a fun, active and high-paced form of play, called futsal. The games will be played in a 5 v. 5 format including goalkeepers (note can always adjust numbers to fit grouping). The format allows each player to maximize touches on the ball, enhance passing and receiving abilities in tight spaces, and a chance to create high volumes of scoring opportunities. While skill development is key, players will also be able to benefit from the chance to compete against other players over the course of eight (8) play dates of futsal. Players are organized on to groups by age, gender and ability. While the program is open to players of all skill levels, there will be two distinct division levels – “recreational” and “competitive” that mirror our core programs -- to optimize each player's game day experience.

Why play Futsal?
Futsal is a fast-paced 5-a-side soccer game that is widely played across the world and is officially recognized by both USSF and FIFA. While it can be a sport in its own right, Futsal does not compete with mainstream soccer, but serves to support it. Futsal is widely considered a valuable tool in the development of young players to assist them in becoming more technically proficient in situations of high pressure.
Key skills and techniques used throughout Futsal games are all directly transferable to the outdoor game.
Through Futsal, players have increased opportunity for:
- Development of agility, balance, coordination and speed
- Enhancing comfort level with the soccer ball
- Learning to make quick decisions while under pressure and in tight spaces
- Learning better spatial awareness
- Improving passing, dribbling, turning, shooting and ball control while under pressure
Smyrna Soccer Club Current Recreational, PDP, Academy and Select Registration:
Registration for all current SSC Rec, PDP, Academy and Select players is currently open for registration. All current players must register for the program individually. After the close of the registration period, players will be assigned to groups by the SSCTechnical Staff to ensure an appropriate competitive environment. All Smyrna Soccer Club PDP, Academy and Select players are encouraged to register for futsal program as a supplement to their outdoor experience.
Coaches and Structure of League?
No team coaches will be utilized for the program. Staff on-site will be from the current Smyrna Soccer Club technical and coaching staff. The players will be placed on various teams (week to week) and play in a free-style type of environment.
Ages and Genders?
The program will be age ranging from 7-19 years old both boys and girls. Groupings will be setup by U8, U10, U12, U14, U16 and U19 groups.
Dates/Times?
Futsal program will run 1 hour in duration for the following 8 Sundays in December, January and February:

December 20th
January 3rd
January 10th
January 17th
January 24th
January 30th
February 7th
Once groupings are completed, the time schedule will be set (will be consistent weekly) but the time range would run from 2PM-8PM.
Where is the program played?
Winter Futsal will be played at NickaJack Elementary - 4555 Mavell Rd, Smyrna, GA 30082
* NOTE: Secondary location might be added due to size of the program.
Uniform
No uniform will be needed but ask that players wear proper soccer attire, shinguards, tennis shoe/flats shoes to every program play date.
