Rebels Soccer Tryouts - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
When are tryout sessions scheduled?
2017 tryouts are scheduled Sunday-Thursday, July 24-28, 2016. Rain-out days will be July 29-30.
Two tryout dates are scheduled for each age group and players are encouraged to attend both tryout days for their age. Tryouts are 90 minutes long for each age group for each event. One tryout session will be conducted on Sunday for all age groups. A second tryout session for each age group will be scheduled during the week, generally Monday-Thursday, weather permitting. Please arrive several minutes early to allow for the check-in process. Each player will be given a t-shirt upon check-in to wear during tryouts.
Where are tryouts held?
All tryouts will be held at Champlin Park High School fields, 6025 109th Ave N, Champlin, MN 55316. Registration table is set up on the west side of the school near the tennis courts.
Is there a cost to try out?
Yes, tryout fees are mandatory and non-refundable for all players. 2017 tryout fees are $40.00 per player if registration is completed by July 10, or $50.00 after July 10. Online registration is required prior to check-in. Registration will be available soon. See our Registration Page for details.
Do I have to pay tryout fees to play even if I can't or don't try out?
Yes, Rebels requires a tryout fee for placement on a team for all players, even if the player cannot attend the tryout sessions.
What am I trying out for?
Tryouts are used to determine placement for similarly-skilled players in the same age brackets, for U10-U18, primarily for Spring/Summer season teams. Fall league play is optional, but generally teams that are formed for Fall League will be maintained as the same teams for Spring/Summer League for continuity.
Do you offer soccer for U9?
Yes! Tryouts are not required for U9. We will place U9 players on teams based on number of players signed up.
How do I know which age group my child is in?
Age groups are defined by the MYSA Birth Year Guidelines for the appropriate season.
What if I don't play Fall League but want to play Spring/Summer?
Players can register for Fall League and Spring/Summer League play independently. Tryout placement applies to the Spring/Summer season independent of fall participation.
What's the tryout process?
Each player is give two opportunities to try out and will be assessed by professional evaluators. A variety of soccer skills and situations will be evaluated. For each of the two tryout sessions each player will receive a separate score, and the highest score will be used for team placement. Within 1 week of the last tryout session each Rebels Head Coach will meet with the Rebels Tryout Committee (President, Vice President, Coaching Director, and Boys/Girls Director) to determine the final teams. Results will be posted on the Rebels web site for each after the final decisions are made. Only the players' tryout numbers and initials will be posted online.
Can parents and coaches watch or attend the tryout sessions?
No, parents and coaches are not allowed to participate. Head Coaches may attend only with pre-approval from the Rebels Coaching Director.
What if I can't make one of the tryout sessions?
The player's evaluation score for one session will be used. No other make-up session is necessary.
What if I can't make either of the tryout sessions?
Please contact the Boys Director or Girls Director to discuss the situation.
Does Rebels schedule "make-ups", "re-do's", or "mixed age" tryouts for those that can't make the scheduled dates?
No, see guidance above if your player can't make the scheduled sessions.
My child would like to tryout for an older age level, but there is only 1 age level available for sign up. How do we sign up for the older tryout?
The player will only need to register at their age level (automatically determined by birth date) and pay one tryout fee, then contact the Boys Director or Girls Director to notify them of the interest in trying out for an older age group. The player will need to attend the tryouts for both age groups to be evaluated at each level.
What happens if there are not enough players who try out to form a team?
We will do everything we can to find teams for those wishing to play. This may include going into the community to find additional players or offering positions on teams at a different age and/or level.
