Wheatland Athletic Association has a variety of paid opportunities for high school, college students and adults. These positions include, but are not limited to: basketball referees, basketball hall monitors, recreational soccer referees for both outdoor and indoor games, linesmen for outdoor soccer, baseball umpires and temporary workers for various administrative duties, storage room and field maintenance. TRAINING CENTER/SPORTS CENTER

WAA Training Center/Sports Center Attendant - Part-time

Part Time Training Center/Sports Center Attendant

Hours: Flexible, weekdays 3:45pm to 10pm, Saturdays and Sundays varies depending on shift, 8am to 10pm
Salary: $13.00 hr. to $14.00 hr.

Qualifications: Must be a responsible and reliable person age 18 or older; some college coursework preferred in the area of sports management. Athletic experience in baseball/softball/soccer or other athletic experience preferred Requires strong people and customer service skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with staff and the public. Possess general office skills, good phone etiquette and computer skills. Attention to detail, accuracy and dependability required. Ability to maintain discretion with regard to confidential matters and/or information. Must be able to project professional appearance, have valid driver’s license and provide own transportation.

Duties: Under the direction and supervision of the Facility Manager, the Training Center/Sports Attendant will provide customer service to the guest of the Training Center or Sports Center as well as be responsible for general facility housekeeping task. Scheduling of teams and individuals in the facility along with set up will be required.

BASKETBALL SITE SUPERVISOR / BASKETBALL REFEREE

Basketball Site - Gym Supervisor

Job Description

Location: Various Elementary and Middle School gyms in IPSD 204, OCSD 308
Hours: 
Saturdays, 8:30am to 6pm – some site times vary depending on gym scheduling
Begins Saturday November 4th end Saturday March 17th 
Salary: 
$15.00 per hr.

Duties:  Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Fields and Facilities, the Basketball Site/Gym Supervisor will provide customer service to the guest of the gym facilities. Be responsible for facility security and general housekeeping task. Together with the Basketball Director ensure basketball officials are present and gym is set up for games.

Basketball Referee 

 Job Description :

  • Must be 16 yrs or older. 
  • Certification a plus.
  • Season begins in November
  • Scrimmages or games are one hour long and start as early as 8:00 AM on Saturdays.   
  • Referees select their games using the Horizon Web Ref website
  • OFFICIAL FINDERS is the Basketball Referee Provider for WAA 

Referee will be working with children in grades K – 12. Referees are expected to officiate the game and instruct players on the rules of the game as necessary. Each referee is responsible for maintaining uniform, picking up and/or dropping off equipment at the WAA office and reporting any problems with games/coaches to the referee coordinator.

Soccer Trainers and Referees

Recreational Soccer Referees

WAA is seeking qualified and enthusiastic soccer referees!!   We will train you if you have played soccer!!  Training sessions available! 

Referees and lines people will be required to attend a mandatory Zoom training meeting in August, work Saturday games and asked to attend an in-person, 1 hour, paid "crash course" on August 26, 2023.   

Games are on Saturday’s.  Fall 2023 games are on September 9, 16, 23, 30, October 7, 14, 21, 28
Games last no more than 60 minutes.
Sessions are held back to back with up to 4 sessions per field each Saturday. 
All fields are in the Naperville/Aurora area - i.e. McCarty Elementary, Still MS, White Eagle 
Pay rate will vary with experience and number of assigned games.  Center Referee rate is $30/game.   
Applicants must be at least 16 years of age by Sept 1, 2023, or 14 and obtain a work permit by Sept 1, 2023.

Seasonal Field Maintenance

Athletic Field Maintenance / Seasonal Position

Hours:                       Early May to Mid-August, Weekdays 8am to 4pm, variable weekends and occasional over-time required. Will work with students class schedule.

Salary:                       $13.00 to $15.00 per hour depending on qualifications

Qualifications:  Must be a responsible and reliable person age 18 or older and have a Valid Illinois Driver’s License. Must be in good physical health to perform manual labor in various weather conditions, including high heat and humidity. Must be able to work flexible hours with possible overtime. Good communication skills required. Ability to work with minimal supervision, recognize priorities and meet deadlines. Basic knowledge of athletic field maintenance a plus.

Duties:  Under the direction and supervision of the Supervisor of Athletic Fields the worker must be able to perform a variety of field maintenance tasks, working with other seasonal Field Crew members to prepare athletic fields according to schedule and standards. This is an at-will position.

WAA needs responsible High School or College age student workers for:

     Summer Intern to help coordinate and run All Star Games, Special Events and Programs (minimum age 17)
     Inventory and storage room maintenance. (minimum age 16)

Additional requirements include the ability to climb stairs, small ladders and lift boxes and sports equipment.  Summer Intern position requires employee to drive to various locations.

Volunteer Opportunities

Wheatland Athletic Association depends on volunteer parents for many of the coaching and assistant coaching positions in the program.  We appreciate all those who have helped out in the past and hope they will continue to give of their time for the future. Discounts for head coaches are given for most sports in the program.

If you have an interest in being a volunteer coach, please fill out the designated area on the sport registration form.  You will be contacted with instructions as to when pick up of the roster, information and equipment as needed for each sport.  In addition, if there is a coach meeting or clinic scheduled, you will be emailed with the details.
