Opportunity to Participate in a Research Study at UNM
Pediatric Neuroscience Laboratory, Department of Psychology, The University of New Mexico is seeking children, age 6-17 years to participate in a research study. We are investigating brain functioning during attention and memory tasks in children who have been BULLIED and in children who have NOT BEEN EXPOSED TO BULLYING using an entirely safe EEG technique and different behavioral tasks. The goal of this study is to understand risk factors that may leave children vulnerable to becoming a victim of bullying in schools.
We use EEG (electroencephalography), which is a well established technique for testing bioelectrical activity in the human brain. EEG is comfortable and totally non-invasive. This recording technique measures your child’s brain function while she/he participates in different tasks. Your child will be asked to view pictures and make responses by pressing a button.
EEG data collection takes approximately 40 minutes. Preparation for EEG testing takes another 30-40 minutes. The study will also measure your child's performance during different behavioral tasks. These tasks will take about 1.5-2 hours. Your child may participate in a single visit (3-4 hours of participant including frequent resting breaks), or if you prefer the testing may be in 2 sessions (about 2 hrs each).
Participants will be compensated for their time.
For more information on this study, please leave your first name ONLY and telephone number at 505-750-1129. Please make reference to the “Bullying Study”.
Thank you for interest in our studies!
