All scheduled games will be at Hillandale unless you are playing a team outside of TPSS. Information about those games will be on the game schedule, which will be released the week of April 24th.

Spring, 2017

Dear Parents and Players,

This first email is pretty long (I know), but please read all of it. It contains extremely relevant and some new information about registration and upcoming dates. Thank you in advance!

Welcome to another season of TPSS softball and I hope that you are as excited as I am! We just finished our third year of winter clinics and before that our first official fall softball season. During the fall, players had a chance to come out and refine their skills as they prepared for the spring season. Seeing so many of our players take advantage of these other opportunities to play softball is very exciting and encouraging. As a league, we continue to move closer and closer to providing players with a chance to play softball all year long. We had 12 players working hard this winter, during our pitching clinic and over 30 players took part in our skills clinic. We had such a high level of interest that we had to turn players away, so when you see next year’s winter registration, please sign up as early as possible so you can take advantage of the opportunity. The players that participated this year will be in great shape for the start of the spring season. It was also amazing to have 5-Star Athletics with us again this fall and winter season and we continue to thank them for their support.

My name is Bryan Williams and I am beginning my ninth year as the Commissioner of TPSS softball. It has been an amazing experience and I look forward to a great spring season. I have been a part of the TPSS softball organization for over 10 years as a parent, coach, Division President, and now Commissioner. My older daughter began playing as a fifth grader and my younger daughter began playing with TPSS five years ago. However, being Commissioner is not my only job, I have been a teacher in public and independent schools for over 15 years and I have always enjoyed working with children. In addition, having been a high school and college athlete, I truly value the experiences and life lessons that stem from organized sports. I look forward to meeting all of you in the coming weeks and I am confident that we will have a fun-filled (and hopefully dry) season.

This year we will again schedule games with teams outside of TPSS. These games will be played on Saturdays and/or Sundays at Hillandale or another mutually agreeable location. This is a great opportunity for our players and I want to thank you in advance for your support in making this happen.

New Registration Age Requirements:

Now that we are playing teams outside of TPSS, it is important that we play by the same age requirements as the other teams. Below you will find the new age levels for each softball division. Since this is the first year that we will be using these new requirements, there will be some flexibility and waivers granted for players that would like to move up, but not down.

Minimum and Maximum Age Ranges for Each Division:

These minimum and maximum age ranges should help parents choose the right division for their child. They will also mean that your child was born between specific dates if they are going to play in a certain division.

8U: Players ages 6-8 (players born in 2008, 2009, or 2010)
10U: Players ages 8-10 (players born in 2006, 2007, or 2008)
12U: Players ages 10-12 (players born in 2004, 2005, or 2006)
14U: Players ages 12-14 (players born in 2002, 2003, or 2004)

These new age requirements may cause some initial angst, but the changes are in the best interest of our players. If you have any questions and/or concerns, please email me directly at [email protected].h

5- Week Pitching Clinic

This spring we will offer a 5-week pitching clinic run by 5-Star Athletics. Each session will be at Hillandale on Field #2 (closest to the fire station) from 5:00pm-6:00pm. This pitching clinic is open to players in the 10U, 12U, and 14U divisions, and will be held on the following dates: 4/29, 5/6, 5/13, 5/20, and 6/3. Please register for this clinic as soon as you can as there will only be 12 spots available.

As an all-volunteer organization, we count on our parents to be supportive of our efforts to provide quality instruction and opportunities for all of our young athletes. That means we will be asking parents to actively participate in the pitching clinic and throughout the season. I look forward to meeting you all and PLAY BALL!

Sincerely,

Bryan Williams, Commissioner, TPSS Softball

Girls 12U Softball ‑ the 12U program is both instructional and competitive with an emphasis on instruction. 12U uses 12" softballs, with players pitching from regulation distance.  Before the season begins, several pitching clinics are held to help players who are interested in pitching during the year.  Umpires call balls and strikes and make the calls for plays in the field.  Teams practice once a week and play at 12:30pm on Saturdays. Depending on the number of teams at the Senior level some teams will play a double header periodically during the year or will have a 2:15 start. We hope to see you out there.  Play ball
