About Centre Soccer
Centre Soccer Association, Inc. is 501c(3) non-profit organization with a mission to provide developmental, recreational, and competitive soccer programs to our community.

Our History

Centre Soccer began in 1985 as the State College Soccer Club. The club evolved from youth and adult recreation programs offered by the Centre Region Parks and Recreation Department (CRPR). This offering, known as The William “Bill” Jeffrey Memorial Youth Program, was a long running endeavor honoring the late Penn State University Men’s Soccer and US National Team Coach, Bill Jeffrey.

The club’s purpose was to promote the game of soccer in all aspects of the game including but not limited to, coaching, coaching education, training, officiating, and player development in conjunction with providing opportunities for competition at different gender and age levels.  Another prime objective was to locate and develop playing fields for soccer.

Responding to the reality that State College was only a part of a larger Centre Region soccer community the State College Soccer Club evolved into the Centre Soccer Association (CSA) in order to broaden its outreach throughout Centre County.

Today’s CSA

Since 1991, Centre Soccer Association soccer club has been recognized as a member of our State Association, PAWest, a member of Region 1 and  US Youth Soccer (USYS).  Innovative programs have been developing over time that include in-house recreational, developmental, instructional and competitive soccer experiences. We are a founding member of the Mountain District Union, a collaborative partnership with participating PA West Clubs in our District to establish a reliable player pathway for committed players in our area to play in regional leagues.

All current soccer programming is under the direction of our Technical Director, Lisa Cole. Lisa brings experience coaching at all levels of the game, including the international level as head coach of the Papua New Guinea U20 National team and the professional level as former Technical Director and Head Coach of the Boston Breakers in the NWSL. Lisa brings to CSA her former experience as coach at several D-1 university programs including Florida State. Lisa has a USSF “A” license in addition to her other credentials.

Our Community Involvement

Centre Soccer has given back to the community through field development partnerships with organizations such as CRPR and the State College Area School District (SCASD).  The result of our most significant effort to date was the development of Fogleman Fields.  This showcase soccer field complex was made possible through fundraising efforts led by Centre Soccer, in addition to cooperation and partnership with CRPR, SCASD, and College Township.  Centre Soccer is the host club for the annual Kicks4Kids 8v8 tournament on the campus of Penn State, the proceeds of which are donated by Kicks4Kids to local chapters of charities such as the United Way and Easter Seals.
