Overview

The SSA Rec Plus program provides registered Recreational Program players in the u5 through u19 divisions with an opportunity to participate in a professional training environment to enhance their technical ability and understanding of the game. Players train in age appropriate groups and activities are designed to maximize comfort with the ball and allow players to improve technically (skills), tactically (decision making), physically (fitness), and psychologically (mental toughness).

The purpose of the program is to provide players who love the game a specialized training program for them to acquire a solid foundation through reinforcement of soccer concepts that promote player development. The program does not replace the Recreational program, but provides an opportunity for additional training supervised by our Recreational Director.   It is recommended, not required, that a player have at least one full year of organized soccer experience on a team prior to participating in this program.  This program is an optional supplemental training program and NOT designed to replace your regular teams practice sessions.  You must also be registered in a regular seasonal division in order to participate in this program.

The program objectives are…

• To expose players to a professional coaching environment with the focus on player development

• To help prepare players for higher-level soccer

• To provide the opportunity for players to become more technically and tactically competent

• To provide the environment for players to become more creative and passionate about soccer

• To help parents become aware as to the progression through the club

The program consists of four primary components…

Dribbling – Ball mastery with both feet including moves, such as changes of direction, stops and starts, and fakes and feints to ensure all players become comfortable with the ball in any situation

Passing and Receiving – Ball striking using different surfaces of the feet to create different deliveries, and ability of the player’s first touch to control the ball effectively

Finishing – Instinctive shot taking and shooting with accuracy and power using different shooting techniques

Small Sided Games – Provide the opportunity for players to perfect technique and improve decision making and speed of play in situations only the game can present
