Welcome to Fall 2017 AYSO U12 Boys Team!

Hi everyone,

Welcome to the new season for AYSO and our U12 Boys team.

I’m excited to be coaching again and for those of you who have been players on my team before, I look forward to another successful and fun season. Below is some initial info on the team and upcoming season. Please read carefully and feel free to contact me with any followup questions.

PRACTICE: We will be practicing on WEDNESDAYS at 5:00p at Corwin. As in the past we will likely have 30 minutes with one of the British trainers and the other 30 minutes will be on our own.

PRACTICES will START next week on WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 6th @ 5:00pm at Corwin.

GAMES: I am still waiting for our game schedule from the league. What I do know is that our games will be on Saturday afternoons. If it is a “Home" game it will be at 4p at one of the fields in Winnetka/Glencoe. If it’s an “Away” game, it will be at 3:15 somewhere in Highland Park. Sorry I don’t have more info, I am at the mercy of the league.

ATTENDANCE:  It goes without saying that the more practices and games your boys attend, the more they will improve as players, as a team and the more likely we are to win games. With a smile on my face I will tell you that I realize I am a soccer player living in a hockey player world and I understand that a number of players take part in both sports. That said, it is my hope that the boys and families will do everything possible to be at practices and games. But I do know that conflicts come up and I would ask If you must miss a game you let me know as far in advance as possible so that I can adjust, especially with game plans.

GAME TIME: It is a tenant of AYSO that all players play at least half a game and my approach is to try and make playing time as equal as possible amongst players at games.

POST GAME TREATS: As you know the kids enjoy post game treats. I will leave it to parents to organize this and if someone wants to take the lead in organizing weeks, please feel free. I'd always suggest something on the slightly healthy side.

WATER: Please make sure the boys bring water to both practices and games. Please put their names on their water bottles and any other clothing they might take off and accidentally leave at practice. I seem to always go home from games and practices with a cache of forgotten bottles, sweatshirts and personal balls.

UNIFORMS: I will be picking up our uniforms at the coaches meeting the evening of 9/6. Since this is after our practice that week, I will distribute the uniforms at the game on Saturday, 9/9. So please arrive extra early to leave time to change. I won’t know our color until the coaches meeting.

BALLS: The league will provide us balls for practice and games, so you do not need to bring your own ball unless you want to. I think we move up to size 5 balls this year, but I’m not sure.

CARPOOLING: I know that we all have multiple commitments pulling us in different directions and I hope everyone feels free to call on each other to carpool and help get players to and from games and practices.

ABOUT ME: Soccer has always been “my sport” and I’ve greatly enjoyed many years in the sport as a player and a coach at every level from local leagues through international play.   I completed numerous coaching course and have a NSCAA National Coaching license. Passing my knowledge on to young players and inspiring a love of the game is a passion of mine and I am looking forward to working with this group of kids. My son Tyler, who is on the team, is a 5th grader at Skokie. My wife's name is Florrie. My daughter, Emma is a Sophomore at New Trier where she plays on the NT soccer team. She also plays for the Wilmette Wings and the US Girls U18 Maccabiah Team. Emma will be assisting me as much as her time allows. I am also thankful for the help of other parents whenever needed and available. If someone is interested in becoming an official Assistant Coach, please let me know.

AYSO 425 WEBSITE: https://ayso.bluesombrero.com/Default.aspx?tabid=807950

I’d also strongly recommend visiting the AYSO 425 website for additional info. As AYSO is using a new online system through bluesombrero.com, you may have to register with the site. There is also an app at the App Store I’d strongly suggest adding to your phone. This is also where you can find out about practice and game cancellations due to weather.

The TEAM PAGE is at: https://ayso.bluesombrero.com/Default.aspx?tabid=815613&familyid=618058357982510121&subctl=teamhome&teamId=120021406

I will try to populate our team page with as much info as possible and do most of my combination through the site.PHONE APP: There is a useful AYSO league app for your phone as well, which I would strongly recommend downloading from the App Store. It is called “Dick’s TSHQ” (It’s affiliated with Dick’s Sporting Goods). You’ll have to input some info, but once set up, it will be easy to see info on the league and team.

EMAILS: Your son’s registration has provided me with one email address for each family. If you’d like me to add an email address to my list for other members of your family, please let me know. Feel free to contact me at any time concerning the team. I will do my best to communicate information, especially changes to the schedule. Several of you (Jack Mitidiero;Alexander O’Brien; Kavi Sing) have incomplete info on the website (no email or phone numbers - not sure why that happens) so please log in to your personal account and update to ensure you receive emails from me and the league as I’m going to try and use their system which allows me to easily group email and message the team.

Best,
David Parks
