HILLIARD OHIO SOCCER ASSOCIATION Program Offerings

Hilliard Ohio Soccer Association (HOSA) currently administers a variety of programs that primarily occupy two soccer seasons: Fall (August-October) with registration in June; and Spring (late March-early June) with registration in January.

HOSA fields competitive teams in the Hilliard FC program U8-U19 and HFC Academy U5-U7.  Our recreational programs include  PK Paws for 3 & 4 year-olds; Recreational Soccer League (HRSL); MSRP (Middle School Recreation Program HSRP ( High School Recreation Program) and The Outreach Program for Soccer (TOPS).

Please view each of these under the Program tabs tor click on the program name below and it will take you to that programs page.

Recreational soccer is a great place to start a child that has never played soccer before. It is also a wonderful program to have a child in that wants to play soccer for the fun of it without the competitive side to it. HRSL registers players twice each year, typically in January and June. Recreational players range in age from 4 to 12 years of age and can register to play HRSL with the exception of players entering middle school (7th/8th grade).  Those players are encouraged to play their middle school soccer for Fall and then play MSSA program with us in the Spring. Any person that registers online and meets the age criteria is accepted regardless of where they live - as long as there is room on a team.

Recreational teams are formed each Fall through random assignment of registered players. Players remain with their Recreational team through the Fall and Spring seasons. Should players drop off teams for the Spring season, they are replaced by new registrants. If more players register for the Spring season then there are openings, new teams are formed for the Spring season only. HRSL makes every attempt to place players on a team. Please note there has been a few times over the years we have not been able to place some players on a team because the teams are full and there are not enough age specific players to form a new team. We do not take requests to be on a certain team or to be with a certain coach or player.

Parents of players on a team volunteer to coach the teams. Teams are organized into leagues by age group and gender. The Pre-K league is for U5 players. U-6, U-7, U-8, U9 - U10 and U11-12 leagues are formed with teams whose players are younger than the upper age on August 1st. For example, if a player is 7 years old on August 1st, they play in an under eight years old (U-8) league.

The fall and spring season consists of seven games played on weeknights and/or Saturdays for one hour between teams registered with HRSL. Teams practice once per week for one hour starting two-three weeks before the first game of the season.U5 teams will only practice once before the season and then have practice/games on a weeknight.  The practice is the first half-hour and the game is the second half-hour. A professional third party photographer takes team and individual pictures each season. HRSL receives a portion of the revenue generated from those families that voluntarily purchase the pictures.   A uniform top is required at an extra cost.

PK Paws

PK Paws is a program for 3 & 4 year olds that allows one parent to participate in all activities with their child.  The program utilizes age appropriate games and challenges designed to introduce skills and concepts related to soccer in a safe, fun and noncompetitive environment with a focus on teamwork rather than individual performance.

This program is offered in the Fall and in the Spring and open to boys and girls.  Group sizes will generally run 10-15 players plus one parent per participant. Groups may be gender specific or COED depending on enrollment.  Each season consists of seven weekly 30 minute sessions (the two weeks immediately following each season are reserved as make-up dates). All sessions will take place at the Hilliard Soccer Complex.

HFC High School Recreation Program

The High School program consists of two parts: a fall Recreation League for high school age students playing one game per week at the Hilliard Soccer Complex; there is also a spring component for participants in grades 9-12 featuring games between similar teams from various communities throughout Central Ohio .

High School teams are coached by parent volunteers and generally operates as a coed program. There are typically 5 home and 5 away games. Matches may be played during the week or on the weekend. The schedule is made by league and subject to change. Coaches are allowed some flexibility to modify game schedules to accommodate field and team availability. Any changes must first be cleared through the League.

Junior Academy Program

The Junior Academy Program U5-U7 provides the transitional step from Rec to competitive soccer. There are no tryouts and players are trained as a "pool" rather than being assigned to specific teams. There may occasionally be matches played against other club academies in central Ohio. The HFC Academy Program is curriculum based with instruction by professional coaches. During the season players will train twice per week over 7 weeks. Friday night sessions run approximately one hour and focus on skill development. Sunday's are reserved for small sided game play (4v4) emphasizing fun and individual creativity.

Hilliard FC

The HOSA competitive program is known as Hilliard FC, aka HFC. HFC teams are formed via tryouts held at the end of the spring season and conducted by the HFC coaching staff.  Each player will receive a summary evaluation including either an invitation to join a specific HFC team, or a recommendation for the HOSA program best suited to that player's demonstrated level of development.  Every player accepting an invitation to join the HFC team is expected to commit to participating for a full-year.

  • HFC is a program with specific expectations regarding player development. Teams will be assigned to League and Tournament play by the Technical Staff at the level deemed best suited to their current standard of play. Teams will play both a fall and spring season (including end of season league tournaments) and participate in external tournaments (generally newer teams will play locally while experienced teams have the opportunity to travel outside of central Ohio). There are also a variety of training opportunities throughout the calendar year open to HFC players.

  • All HFC teams are treated equally: each has a Professional Coach; each has the same number of training sessions; each is taught from the same player development manual and all teams wear the same uniform. We believe this player centric philosophy to be unique among clubs in this region.

TOPSoccer Program

Any child aged 4 to 19 with mental, physical or learning disabilities from the Central Ohio area may play in the TOPS program at Hilliard or Westerville. Teams are formed from the players that attend each Saturday morning one-hour session during the Fall and Spring season. Volunteers, typically community residents or players from the Hilliard/Westerville high schools Boys and Girls soccer teams, act as coaches, referees and assistants each week.

Summer Camps

Soccer camps are considered a key piece of the HOSA player development model. Typically there is a camp for the Recreational players and one for the Hilliard FC . Please view the CAMPS tab to read about summer soccer camps. Registration held in May/June months.
