Referee Information

How to Become a Tonka United Referee

Welcome to the referee page.  For those that are new, we’re glad that you’ve decided to become a referee.  Being a referee can be a rewarding experience!  We hope that this is the start of a long career for you!

New Referees:

Follow these steps to become an official for Tonka United.

1. Obtain your Grade 8 certification.  Tonka United requires that all of its referees be certified by the US Soccer Federation for the current year.  Certification is administered by the Minnesota State Referee Committee.  Clinics are offered throughout the metro in March and April and late summer.
a.     Register online with the State Referee Committee www.MinnesotaSRC.com
b.     Pay the required fees.
c.     Successfully complete the online training and test.
d.     Attend a MNSRC clinic.  (A referee may attend their clinic at any location throughout the metro.)

2. Sign-up in our online assigning system:  www.GameOfficials.net
a.     Click on the green “New Officials” button on the left hand side of the screen.
b.     Enter our Group #:  1102 and our Access Code:  2010.
c.     Complete all of the required information.


3.  Complete concussion awareness training
a.     Concussion Training
b.     Print out a copy of the certificate you receive at the end of the training and fax it to Tonka United and keep it for your records.


4.  Complete a MYSA background check
(FOR REFEREES 18 AND OVER)

5. Purchase a uniform.
  There are several locations that have them, here a just a couple of suggestions:

All referees must have:

a.     An official yellow referee jersey.
b.     Black shorts.
c.     Black referee socks.
d.     Black shoes for recreational games, their own soccer shoes are permitted.
e.     Whistle (Fox 40 or similar is suggested).
f.      Digital watch.

6. Attend a Tonka United field training:

a.     Traveling trainings take place throughout the winter and early spring.
b. First year referees must attend a parent/referee meeting on Thursday, April 25th.
The meeting will be held from 6:00 pm to 6:45 pm in the Writing Center at Minnetonka High School.
   It is required for referees with 1 year or less of experience who wish to work recreational games for Tonka United.

Existing Referees:

Follow these steps to become an official for Tonka United.

1.     All officials must renew their certification each year.  Referees will not be permitted to work until they appear on the SRC certification list.    

2.     Complete steps 2-4 of the new referee requirements stated above.

3.     Travel referees with less than three years of experience are expected to attend a field training.  Winter training is offered as an option for this training.  Otherwise you should attend the field training offered in April.  For winter training - contact Mark at [email protected].  For spring training, contact Jerry at Jsrausch@comcast.net
