WHAT IS SELECT SOCCER?
In simple terms, “Select” soccer means that players are chosen (selected) for teams using a means of assessment, such as a tryout. Spots on teams are secured based on performance.
This differs from recreational soccer where players may be placed on teams simply by signing up.For Alma Soccer Club, we strive to offer the following Select (Travel) Soccer Programs as higher level feeder programs going into our high school teams:
- U12 Select Boys
- U12 Select Girls
- U14 Select Boys
- U14 Select Boys
Our "select" teams are the same "travel" teams we have had in the past, only now these teams are tryout based.
Select teams will practice multiple times per week.
While we want every player to have the opportunity to perform in games, there will be no expectation of playing time in games for any Select team.Additional notes for U14 Select Teams:
- The ultimate goal of the U14 teams is a feeder program to prepare these boys and girls for high school soccer tryouts.
- This division will have home and away games vs. schools in our age/grade division in the River Valley.
- Players are expected to attend all practices and will be pushed to advance in their abilities.
- U14 players are expected to bring their own size 5 ball to practice.
Tryouts for Spring 2024 Select U14 Teams will be held January 6, 2024.
DEADLINE TO REGISTER FOR TRYOUTS: FRIDAY JANUARY 5
There is no cost for tryouts. The costs below are for players who make the U12 or U14 Select Teams.
SELECT COSTS:
U12 Select Boys/Girls - $50 - includes jersey & team fee for playing at other venues
Parents provide black shorts, black socks, shin-guards and a size 4 soccer ball.
U14 Select Boys/Girls - $70 - includes full kit (jersey, shorts, socks) & team fee for playing at other venues
Parents provide shin-guards and a size 5 soccer ball.
We will hold tryouts before registration opens for Select Soccer. This way only those who make the Select Team register for Select Soccer. Everyone else will register for Recreational Soccer.
