Registration Form and Medical Release

Year after year families ask what they can do to help out with Springfield Challenger baseball.  Returning these forms as soon as possible is one of the most important ways you can help.  Even though we accept registrations throughout the season, returning this form is key to determining the number of teams, the number of players on a team, accommodating special requests, scheduling fields for games, making arrangements for our Mother’s Day tribute, and ordering equipment,  uniforms and trophies.  Please do not leave this form on the kitchen counter or wait for spring to arrive.

For some, the attached pre-printed registration form is based on the information you provided when you registered last year, so some of the information may be out of date.  Please review, make any changes necessary (including the Medical Release Information) and return by Saturday February 18 OR sooner if possible.  It is a tremendous help to us in getting ready for the new season if you get this back to us quickly.

If you opt to mail in your registration please do so to :   Patti Alf     8810 Dianne Place    Springfield, VA  22152

What is Springfield Challenger Baseball

Springfield Challenger Baseball is a division of West Springfield Little League for players with special needs ranging in ages of 4-40.  It is managed under West Springfield Little League in cooperation with Central Springfield Little League and South County Little League.

We have three divisions:
Little Challenger for kids 4-12
Majors for our teenagers 13-19
Adult division for payers 19-and older

We provide a volunteer-based inclusive baseball program with peer buddy support, in a positive, fun atmosphere with role models for age appropriate behavior. Our program builds self-esteem, confidence, acceptance, as well as an opportunity to establish on-going relationships with others. We also provide opportunities to socialize, learn proper cooperative behaviors, sort out problems and work together as part of a team.

Springfield Challenger Baseball gives our kids a sense of belonging outside of the immediate family.

Spreading the Word for 2023

One of the best things about our Springfield Challenger program is the support we receive from our local Little League programs. We have plenty of room to bring on many more ballplayers and would like to get the word out to more and more families. If you would like help with making arrangements, members of our staff would love to visit your schools, churches, businesses, etc. and spread the word about what a wonderful time we have during the spring and fall seasons. If you know of anyone or any group that would benefit from Springfield Challenger, please let me know and we would come out to meet and answer any questions about how we could make a difference.

This year we will be sending out Springfield Challenger information flyers to schools throughout Fairfax County, focusing on elementary and middle schools, asking principals and teachers to distribute the information to the special needs population. We are also asking parents to talk with your friends about joining up. We can and will do everything possible to accommodate all requests for players, friends and classmates to participate on the same teams.

Lastly, if you know of a family that would like to come out and try Challenger Baseball, please feel free to bring them out on any Sunday game day. We would love to meet them.

Mother's Day Sunday - May 14 Special Event

This year we have a special event planned for the moms, players and families of Springfield Challenger. We have reserved the banquet hall at the Springfield Hilton for a wonderful Mother’s Day Brunch complete with a tremendous buffet including an omelet station and pasta station. Other specials will include an ice cream station for the kids plus a DJ and dancing for ALL.

With this tribute to our moms we are hoping for even more families to celebrate Mother’s Day with the Challengers plus give our moms a day to remember.  We’re anticipating a big turnout of players and their families as the accommodations we are setting up allow for up a very special day for our moms.

Springfield Challenger has ALWAYS been family oriented, but instead of just sitting back and playing games on Mother’s Day Sunday, we felt that the day was too special and we would like to offer a tribute to the best part of our lives.

We will have more information as the season progresses, so expect invitations to go out early in April. This will be a RSVP event, so please set aside 1PM – 3:30PM on Mother’s Day AFTERNOON, May 14 for a thank you to our moms. This year we will be asking for a $25 fee per family to help us offset the costs for this wonderful event.

PLEASE NOTE : Do not send in the Mother’s Day $25 fee until we send you the formal invitation
