Week 3 Results

Where to even begin?

Heading into last week, half of HKL's games needed OT to determine a winner, and week 3 almost gave us two more. Ironically, while there ended up being no OT games in Week 3, we saw our closest overall week yet! In the 3 games, there was a total of, you guessed it, 4 runs separating all teams!

Additionally, speaking of 4, the special group of 9 mentioned last week is now down to 4 as well. For those that may need a reminder, there were only 9 players in HKL this season to have achieved the following: 2 hits in each game and/or scored 1 run in each game

Richard Price and David DePoi from our defending champions 'Titan My Ballz'

Tyler Sandefur from 'Ball Stars'

Robert Kalten from 'The Biebel Bunch'

Congratulations to the 4 of you on your fantastic consistency, we wonder who'll be the next to drop out, or will you all continue to defy the odds?!

Now to get to the best part of this article and the reason we all show up on Thursdays.......the games themselves!

Field 1 saw our Week 3 Female POW Heather Lavery save the day, and perhaps the season, for her old friends and new team The Biebel Bunch. While struggling the first 2 weeks to actually match their team name in attendance, Heather brought some new life to the team (both literally and figuratively) helping balance out this league even further with every team now having at least one win under their belts.

Ballbusters lost a tough one 3-1 despite a few stellar defensive plays from Sara Barbieri and Anthony Scatenato, both of which were as good a play on defense as we've seen so far this season. Ballbusters defense remains fairly stingy. If they can improve their offense, they can still make some noise here as the season moves along.

On Field 2, Ballz to the Wallz visiting Titan My Ballz was every bit as good as we expected it to be. Impressively, and improbably, TMB remains the lone undefeated team with yet another narrow victory, in a  6-5 heavyweight bout. Looking like we were headed to another OT in what would've been routine at that point, Hugh crossed the plate for the winning run thanks to Corey Jones hitting a nice deep shot to get the RBI & secure the 3-0 record.

Jeff Torreda did his best to help Ballz to the Wallz take down the reigning champs, but at 1-2 with 15 runs scored and 15 runs against, they are smack dab in the middle of this competitive league and have shown plenty of potential.

Now, to field 3, where we thought for sure we'd get our third straight OT game, we very nearly did! Y U Gotta Breaka My Balls visiting Ball Stars was another beauty of a matchup where we expected fireworks and both teams delivered. Tyler continues his weekly dominance adding another 3 hits & 2 runs to his resume and helping Ball Stars firmly land in second place as the only 2-1 team in HKL.

Y U Gotta Breaka My Balls couldn't quite match their 20 run week 2 performance, but putting up 5 against Ball Stars is no easy task. As Y U Gotta continues to gel and find their rhythm, and fill out their roster, the rest of the league should remain on high alert!

Congratulations to all of you on another awesome week and we'll see you all out there for week 4!!
