Mariner Youth Soccer

Travel Program Information

What is travel soccer?
While Mariner is largely a recreational soccer organization, we do offer a competitive soccer program.  We hold tryouts and create teams who play competitive teams from other towns with the goal of competing at a higher level against players and teams of similar abilities.

What is the South Coast Soccer League (SCSL)?
Mariner is a founding Berber and competes in the South Coast Soccer League, which generally plays teams from Southeastern Massachusetts, the Cape and Islands. There are two separate seasons of soccer in the SCSL.  All the games are tracked by the league and, at the end of the spring regular season, the top teams in each grade level (grades 5-12 only) are seeded and play for a league championship. Additionally the league winner of each grade level’s first division goes to the Massachusetts Tournament of Champions (MTOC) for a three day tournament against the winners from other town competitive leagues across the state. The winner of that tournament is crowned the state champion.

What are the Responsibilities of a Spring Travel Player?

Spring travel players will be asked to attend training sessions 1-2 days per week and a game on the weekend.

In order to participate in Spring Travel Soccer, players MUST participate in Mariner’s fall rec program as well(up to grade 6 only).

Spring Travel Soccer players that DO NOT participate in the fall rec program CAN play travel in the spring but will be required to pay an additional $120 on top of the travel fees. (Up to grade 6 only)

Where do we purchase our child’s uniform?
Travel uniforms are NOT included in the registration fee. Uniforms must be ordered individually by families with children. Currently we use Soccer.com as our provider and PUMA as the manufacturer for all of our travel uniform kits.

Any player who has decided not to play in the Travel League due to financial constraints should contact the President before making such a determination. The Board or the President can usually waive fees due to the financial needs of an individual player. Players should be aware that the playing time rules that are in effect for Rec Soccer do not apply to Travel Soccer.
