Coaches Corner

NFYLA holds high standards for its all volunteer coaching staff.  If you would like to volunteer, please contact a board member at [email protected]

As a recreational lacrosse program, our focus is on developing each player to their full potential, accommodating players of all skill levels.  To support this goal our coaches are expected to:
1.  Continuously strive to improve their knowledge of the game and ensure players are learning the “right way” to play
2.  Employ game strategies that leverage advanced player’s skills while ensuring equitable play time for all players
3.  Respect the dignity of every player and seek ways to help them recognize their strength and self-worth

Each team will have a head coach with a USA Lacrosse Coach’s membership, and this coach must complete the free online training that accompanies this membership.  Assistant coaches are encouraged to do the same.  The USA Lacrosse coach membership fee will be reimbursed by NFYLA. Coaches can expect to lead 2 practices per week, and 1 game per weekend, during the spring and fall seasons. Parents are highly encouraged to assist as coaches, and should not be discouraged if they have no lacrosse experience—we will train you, provide practice plans, and handle the administrative aspects—all free of charge.  Nearly 100% of our coaching staff started out initially as a parent of a player on our team without prior lacrosse experience.

All coaches and volunteers must complete a Forsyth county mandated background check, free of charge.  Please download and print the form linked on the right and submit it to a member of the board of directors.
