Manager and Coach Safety Training

Managers and Coaches,

I hope your early practices have been going well and that every one is remaining safe! There are a considerable number of managers and coaches that have not completed the mandatory safety requirements. Some of you only recently signed up to help so I'm providing a list of things that need to be completed as soon as possible. Managers, if you have not completed these requirements, please do so ASAP. Please also message to your coaches that they need to complete these items.

AnnualSafetyPlan Review: All managers and coaches must review this year'ssafetyplan. It seems long, but it used to be 120 pages! I've cut it down to something that is hopefully more readable. Annual Safety Training: All managers and coaches must watch the annual safety briefing. It's about 40 minutes long. I prerecorded it this year so that you don't have to attend a live briefing. Concussion Awareness Training: All managers and coaches (including practice coaches) must complete the concussion awareness training provided by the CDC. which can be accessed using the following linkhttps://www.cdc.gov/headsup/youthsports/training/index.html(choose the "coach" option). It is not the most user friendly platform, I know. This should take you about 45 minutes. This also must be completed once a year, so even if you completed this last spring, you will need to complete it again. At the end, you should receive a certificate of completion that you'll upload with the verification form at the bottom of this email. Note: if you completed this last year and it has been less than one year, it will not let you complete it again. If that's the case, just check that option in the verification form below. I'll send a reminder later this season for those of you unable to complete the training now to do so after the year is up.

Annual baseball fundamentals training: All managers and coaches of record are required to attend a live or virtual fundamentals training. We do not have any requirements at this time regarding the substance of the training, so for now, I will accept attestation that you've either attended a training we offer or have watched some sort of training program online. I do recommend you attend one of the clinics offered by local coaches. I've taken away a lot from these over the years.

I appreciate that these requirements are somewhat time consuming and not the most fun part of coaching, but they help us comply with Little League's requirements and help keep our greatsafetyrecord going. Please contact me with any questions. Again, thank you for all that you do!

Accident Tracking Form

Whenever you have an accident that involves any of your players, coaches or volunteers be sure to complete an "Accident Tracking Form." E-Mail the completed forms to: Matt Spitzer, WSLL Safety Officer.

Heads Up: Concussions in Youth Sports

WSLL requires all Managers, Coaches of Record (CORs), umpires and members of the Board of Directors to take the CDC on-line Concussion Training Course. Below is some excellent information regarding Concussions in Youth Sports:
