Tony Musco, former WSLL veteran umpire who umpired for nearly 30 years in WSLL and District 9, passed away on July 18, 2021.  He was 95 years old.  

Tony’s umpire career spanned nearly 70 years where he officiated games in Poland, Spain, and other countries on several occasions in addition to West Springfield and District 9.

While in WSLL he was a leader of the umpire corps that served not only the many teams whose games he umpired but the umpires he trained and inspired. At least two of his fellow trained umpires reached the major leagues.

He was honored for his many years of service to Little League Baseball by being inducted into the Little League Baseball Hall of Fame.  He also threw out the first pitch at a World Series game.

In recent years, Virginia District 9 has honored his exceptional lifetime of service, with an annual presentation of the Musco Award to an individual who exemplifies dedication and service to the Little League program.

His live for kids extended beyond the playing field. For many years he served as Santa Claus at the annual Springfield Challenger holiday celebration.

Tony’s family has graciously included WSLL among charitable organizations to whom donations may be made in Tony’s memory. Tony wanted all of those that wanted to play baseball not to be excluded or challenged by fees. Accordingly, WSLL has established the Tony Musco scholarship fund in his honor.
