Q: What is the time commitment for sideline cheer?
A: MTLYCA Cheer Camp is held over 2 weeks in August. Each week consists of 3 to 4 days, 2 hours in the evening. Before football season starts, coaches will plan a few extra evening practices.  Once football season starts, 45 minute practices will be held before games on Saturdays. The season typically concludes at the end of October or in early November depending on the time of football playoffs. *please review cheer guidelines for attendance, conduct, etc.

Q: Who can participate in this program?
A: We offer sideline cheer to residents of Mt. Lebanon who are entering grades 1st-6th. Those enrolled in sideline cheer have the option to join the competitive team.

Q: Where can I find the cheerleading guidelines?
A:Click here

Q: What if my family has a vacation planned the same week as cheer camp?
A:
You will be required to learn all missed material on your own. Any cheerleader not attending camp will not be included in stunts or tumbling portion of halftime routine for their safety and the safety of others.  If a cheerleader misses, an e-mail or  message is expected.

Q: What is the time commitment for competitive cheer?
A: Competition teams will begin practices  after evaluations.  Summer practices will mainly be held once or twice a week in the evenings. Mandatory practices begin the end of August. Practices during the school year will be held on Sundays. The competition team will attend 3 to 5 local competitions.

Q: How are teams determined?
A: Our sideline teams (squads) are
Termites - Grades 1/2
JV - Grades 3/4
Varsity - Grades 5/6
Squad sizes are capped. We aim to keep squad sizes fairly even while keeping them grouped with others from their elementary school.

Q: Why is cheer camp being held indoors now instead of Cedar Field?
A: MTLYCA  has moved its camp indoors to avoid any interruptions caused by weather.

Q: What does my sideline registration fee cover?
A: The MTLYCA registration fee covers use of the indoor practice facilities, team insurance coverage, MTLYCA practice shirt, custom music, team spirit supplies and administrative costs.

Q: Why does my daughter have to cheer sideline if she only wants to participate on a competition team?
A: These are guidelines set forth by the PIAA for high school cheer, as well as by the Universal Cheer Association for recreation cheer divisions.

Q: What does my registration fee for competition cheer cover?
A: Your payment covers: gym/field rentals, stunt clinic, choreography, professional music, competition signs, competition bow, practice top, and competition entry fees.
