John Michael Hayden
Assistant Camp Director / Lipscomb University Men's Assistant Coach
John Michael Hayden is a former professional player and current Assistant coach for the men's NCAA Division I program at Lipscomb University. He holds a USSF National "A" License, which he earned while serving as the Director of Coaching with the Kentucky Fire Juniors USYSA Club. Hayden has played professionally in both the indoor and outdoor leagues in the MLS, Division I USL and PASL. Hayden is a 2006 graduate of Indiana University, a prominent Division I soccer program. While at the Indiana, Hayden helped guide the Hoosiers to back-to-back National Championships in 2003 & 2004.
Perhaps the highlight of his career came in 2004 when he scored on a header in overtime to defeat third-ranked Maryland Terripans to put his Hoosiers into the championship match with UC Santa Barbara in the NCAA College Cup. That season, he had career highs across the board, (7) goals, (4) assists and (18) total points. Hayden garnered individual honors of Big Ten All-Conference selection in 2004 & 2006, along with being named to the NCAA College Cup All-Tournament team during the '04 championship run.
Hayden was selected 13th overall by the Houston Dynamo in the Major League Soccer Super Draft in 2007. His professional debut came in July 2007 in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup against Charleston Battery. The Dynamo won the MLS Cup Championship during Hayden's rookie season.
Before joining the Lipscomb family, Hayden spent one year in the coaching ranks at the University of Louisville, where he helped guide the Cardinals to a 14-6-1 record and an Elite 8 appearance in the NCAA National Tournament.
John Michael married the former Hollie Minogue in December of 2007. The couple has one son, Liam (1).
