BelFast Belles Season Opener

Soccer fans clamoured to the WCSA Soccer Complex to see the Belfast Belles play their season opener. With such a strong core of veteran, talented  players, expectations are high this season. The Belfast Belles did not disappoint as they hit on all cylinders and won convincingly with  a 7-2 victory over Coach Martin's Planet Technologies. The tone was set early (and often) as Marxie Myers broke the ice for the season with a goal in the first five minutes of the game. After a year of playing overseas, Anna Cate Beachum returned to the fold and showed off her scoring skills in the next 5 minutes to make it 2-0. 2 more goals from Marxie, Team Captain Camille Nash's first goal of the season and another from Anna Cate made it 6-0 by half time. "We weathered the storm in the first 5 minutes" said Coach Mike Midgley "and after that, it was Belfast Belles Showtime! Each and every player contributed to the big half time lead and played their postion to perfection".

Our first ever goalie, Kailiegh Midgley, faced maybe 2 shots in the first half as Team Captain Annika Midgley, Marie Forbes and Kate Dekker shut down the oppostion's strikers. Nobody touches Baby!!!!

With the game well in hand, Coach Mike Midgley implemented the left foot shot rule (goals must be scored with the left foot) in the 2nd half. Marxie Myers did not disappoint and scored the lone second half goal with a left foot shot.  Jane Roach and Madison Phillips used their cheetah speed throughout the game and made some fantastic plays in helping set up some goals. Avery Grummon showed off her great dribbling skills quite a few times throughout the game (with one particularly memorable moment). Kate Dekker played the 2nd half in net and did everthing right. The only 2 goals allowed were perfectly placed shot that couldn't be stopped. Some great defensive runs from Kaileigh Midgley allowed our players to get some rest during the 2nd half.

The mission for the first game was to win the game and knock Coach Martin's team out of first place. Mission accomplished Belles!!!
