U13 Boys Blue Win Georgia President's Cup

It seems that the U13 boys can't get enough of soccer. After a pretty decent season in Classic II, they just weren't ready for the summer break yet. The boys took on the challenge of the Presidents Cup. And was it a challange... The boys came out hungry and opened the Presidents Cup with a huge win. Their first opponent were the Troup Titans, who just were no match for our Inter Atlanta FC Blues. At the end of the game the score board read Inter Atlanta 11:0 Troup Titans. Turns out, it was to be the highest scoring game of the Presidents Cup on the girls and boys side in 2013. Our second game was not as easy, but our boys came out on top again. This time we went up against Norcross Fury Gold and beat them with a comfortable 2:0. Despite being superior in this entire game as well, one play stood out more than anything else in this game. It was coach Robert's corner kick trick play. Nobody really knew exactly what happened... Our players were sitting on top of the box being tightly marked by Norcross. Alex Durham was to take the corner kick, right before coach Robert instructed Sohail Ghatnekar to take it. That's were all confusion happened. Once Sohail walked up to the corner kick spot, he dribbled the ball in to the field at a walking speed. He literally calmly walked passed the PK spot and shot the ball in past the goal keeper while all the defenders were marking our boys on top of the box watching all this happen in disbelief. Nobody knew what was going on except the referee and our boys. Seems like it will remain a U13 boys secret. The referee pointed to the half line. The score was 2:0.  In our third group game we faced SSA Chelsea West. Although we showed dominance the entire game, the score remained 0:0 and it was enough for our boys to advance to the semi-final round. Our next opponent was Oconee SA. This turned out to be a nerve wrecking but exciting game. In the very first minute of the game we opened the scoring with the Nate Wakeman from the half line. Nate's ball was intended as a cross, but was misjudged by Oconee 's goal keeper. To our favor, in ended in the back of the net. As the game went on, we kept creating more opportunities for ourselves by playing our game over the flanks. Before the first half came to an end we hit the cross bar and the post. The post hit came from another corner kick trick, but unfortunately we were unable to capitalize this time. So the score remained 1:0 until a few seconds were left in the first half when Oconee managed to tie it up to 1:1. Half way thru the second half we were awarded another corner kick. Once the ball was crossed into the box, Jordy Fischbach managed to finish on a beautiful acrobatic bicycle kick to go up 2:1. Oconee kept fighting though and managed to tie it up once again with three minutes left in the game. We had to go to PK shoot outs to decide this one. This is when our goalkeeper Jack Hudson couldn't resist and had to show out by saving already two PK's despite the fact that he was injured. Our last shooter Tom Haskell took what seemed like an eternity to walk up to the ball. He placed it on the white dot, and sent his shot ice cold in the bottom right corner where the goal keeper didn't stand a chance. We needed Jack's brilliant reactions one more time and we could go to the finals. As if it was meant to be... he dove into the right corner, saving the shot, and taking his team to the finals as all of the boys ran towards him and jumped on him in a celebration pile. This past Saturday we played our Championship Game in Fayetteville , GA. With a 9:00 o’clock kick-off and lots of rain, we were only 80 minutes away from our biggest success yet. In this game we beat GSA Phoenix. Once again, the game was to be decided in PK shootouts after regulation, and double overtime. A stellar performance by our goal keeper Jack Hudson as nothing else was expected of him, when he once again saved three spot shots to send the team to the Regional Presidents Cup in Decatur , Alabama . Our boys are now making a few final tweaks as they are preparing for the Regional tournament. Let’s all wish them good luck and a good tournament in Alabama .
