Dear Benfica USA parents/players,
Thank you for being part of our family. This has been a significant soccer year; the partnership with Seacoast United, moving some teams to the New England Premiership (NEP) league, our own College Showcase, pre-season tournament, more team participation in the Northeast Region 1 league, etc. Your continued support is true testament to the club’s soccer culture.
In my professional opinion, we had a great soccer year. Historically, the spring season, in general has produced better team results than the fall season. This has been attributed to our winter training. However this spring season has been exceptional in team results. This can only be correlated to the club’s participation in pre-season tournaments. All the teams had very good results with the majority finishing in the top three and many winning their division. In addition we had great showing in the Northeast Region 1 league, State Cup, Presidents Cup and Memorial Day Tournaments. Visit our website, www.BenficaUSA.org to see all the accolades.
However, to continue being successful, a constant self-examination and re-evaluation process has to be in place. Playing in NEP has been a breath of fresh air. Examining all logistic points this should be the league we should be playing in. The administration is a breeze; the scheduling/re-scheduling is simple and uncomplicated; the playing environment is rewarding; the focus is entirely on player development, as it should be!
We will remain steadfast on the need of the player instead of the needs of the team. We will always be honest with the parents and players and we will not tell you what you NEED to hear just to collect a fee. We will not make unrealistic promises. Nobody has the magic dust to make players overnight. Some players will take the information and make the adjustments quicker than others. Kids change from week to week, game to game and season to season. I understand some adults would like to see a big difference right away but no one possess that power except maybe the player.
We are looking for players that we can work with, that are dedicated and committed to working hard at practices and games and are focused in getting better. We’ll continue to give out the information, the opportunities to apply the information, the patience and perseverance required in the development process.
Looking forward to the 2013/2014 soccer year:
Finally, I would like to continue our open communication and if there are any questions, concerns or comments that the coach cannot answer, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
