Mark Mallon named TBUR's Development Academy Director









Mallon named TBU Rowdies DA Program Director


Tampa, FL - December 11, 2017 - Mark Mallon has been named US Soccer Development Academy/Player Development Director for the Tampa Bay United Rowdies Soccer Club.  

 “I am grateful to the Board of Directors and Charlie Slagle – CEO of Tampa Bay United Rowdies for this opportunity to serve as Academy Director of Coaching and Player Development of the Tampa Bay Rowdies", said Mallon.   "Player Development is paramount in the process of coaching, mentoring, and training our players to prepare them for the next level – whether that be college soccer, US National Teams, or professional league selection.  I look forwarding to leading our USYS teams to national championship titles and the DA players to identification for collegiate and US Soccer National Team selection.”   

Mallon is one of the highest credentialed soccer coaches in America holding the USSF A License, NSCAA Premier Diploma, NSCAA Advanced National Diploma, FA Badge - England, and FA Badge - Scotland.

Mallon is founder of The Soccer Institute and joins the TBU Rowdies Soccer Club with a distinguished soccer playing and coaching career including collegiate coach at Rutgers, Yale and Men's Head Soccer Coach at the University of California - Berkeley.  He coached at Yale leading the Bulldogs to NCAA Sweet Sixteen and Final Eight during two of his four seasons with Steve Griggs while amassing a 20-6-2 Ivy League record against the likes of Bob Bradley – Princeton, Dave Sarachan – Cornell, and Bobby Clark – Dartmouth.    Mallon guided the Cal Golden Bears from 145th in the nation to a school record #2 national ranking in his third season in Berkeley with wins over #1 UCLA, #3 U. Of Washington, and #8 Santa Clara enroute to building a topflight NCAA program at Cal.   Mallon has developed seven players for MLS including Cal alums Richard Weiszmann, Troy Roberts, Chris Roner, Steve Rullo, David Bingham, Andrew Wiedeman, and Leonid Krupnik.   He has coached in the Olympic Development Program for NJ, CT, CA and Region I ODP Staff winning the Far West Region Championship and participating in the inaugural Snickers Youth National Championships.

Mark was selected to the coaching staff for the inaugural Adidas Summer League at IMG and coached some of the nation’s top future prospects including Caleb Porter, Wade Barrett, and several other MLS players.   Mark hired Lyle Yorks as his assistant coach at CAL Berkeley prior to him becoming one of the top player agents in the USA.

As Director of Coaching and Player Development for the 3,000 member San Ramon FC soccer club in the San Francisco Bay Area, Mark developed top flight collegiate players and MLS players including David Bingham (San Jose Earthquakes), Andrew Wiedeman (FC Dallas, Toronto FC, Cincinnati FC) and Dallas Jaye a USF goalkeeper and FC Cincinnati professional player.   During his tenure as director of coaching the San Ramon SC girls U16 were national champion finalist. While at Yale he won a U16 Girls State Championship with Guilford SC and Boys U15 finalist with the Redding Rebels .
