All-Metro girls soccer Player of the Year: Julie Lynch, Sparrows Point

Junior center midfielder Julie Lynch is the total soccer package as she led No. 6 Sparrows Point (16-2) to a state-record fifth straight Class 1A state championship. Her season totals — 21 goals and 19 assists — show only part of what makes her so valuable.

She combines technical skills with an understanding of the game, physical play and an ability to make teammates better with her leadership. No player in the area was able to affect a game in so many ways with her offensive prowess, defensive instincts and ability to hold the ball in the middle.

A first-team All-Metro pick as a sophomore who has committed to West Virginia, Lynch had at least a goal or an assist in 17 of 18 games this past season, and has 51 goals and 39 assists in her first three varsity seasons.
