Thank you to all parents for having the boys at the park and ready to go last night.  I was encouraged by the aggressive approaches at the plate and on the base paths.   The boys faced the Giants # 1 pitcher and we went through the lineup prior to 3 outs and scored 5 runs.  The most important thing is for the boys to continue to be aggressive and put the ball in play and good things will continue to happen.

Our pitchers had a tough night as it was the first live game situation this year.  The purpose of the scrimmage was to identify areas for improvement and we certainly found our focus area for the next few weeks prior to season opener.  Please make sure to have your child attend every practice possible as we lead up to opening game.  Those who are not pitchers will be able to help our rotation by facing our pitchers in live batting situations at practice over the coming weeks.  We plan on our rotation getting a bunch of work this week and next getting more comfortable from the mound and working hard to find the ability to make in game adjustments to get back into the strike zone after giving up hits and minimizing walks.

Unfortunately, we have experienced some lineup attrition.  We have a boy who ended up not playing and another who has had some issues with injury,  This has left our roster a little short.  We were lucky to be able to have an addition to our roster from Brentwood Academy.  Jackson Wells has joined our team and is certainly a welcome addition.  Jackson is a catcher and did his duty behind the dish for us last night.  He was thrown into the fire on his first day with the team and looks to have earned the starting role at that position.  We have a couple of other boys who know Jackson from school and he looks to fit well into our existing roster and was welcomed by all his new teammates.

Some boys who really stood out last night are:
Cole                       batted leadoff and crushed two doubles into the gap / ran aggressively and had an outstanding slide into second to secure his second double   Carson                  reached base twice and advanced 1st to 3rd twice on throws behind the runner by the other team   Pasha                    laced a hit up the middle and advanced 1st to 3rd and went on the score two runs

As I mentioned earlier, I was very encouraged by all the boy’s approaches at the plate and outstanding attitudes both on the field and in the dugout.

I am very appreciative of the assistance that I have received from Chris and John and am certain that the team will be better and the boys will benefit from the efforts of your time and efforts.

Practice schedule rest of this week :

Thursday      7:15 – 9:00              Granny White #2
Saturday       9am – 11am            Granny White #2

We will scrimmage the Giants again next week on Tuesday night.  We will begin at 6:30.  Please have your child at the park by no later than 6:15 for warmup.  I will be at the park by 6:00 so it is ok to be earlier.

I look forward to seeing everyone on Thursday evening.
