Disney Showcase Qualifier Success

The TBU Premier Team spent their Labor Day weekend battling both quality soccer opponents as well as absolutely brutal weather conditions. Playing four games in three days is a difficult task in perfect weather conditions, but to have to take on such a challenge in incredibly hot and humid weather added to the difficulty factor.
The team started the weekend with an impressive performance against the Legz A-Z Caimans out of Gainesville. FL. Thomas Whiting scored two goals in this one that bookended Codey Iturri's first of the season on a well earned and well placed PK. TBU took game one 3-0.
Sunday morning the team faced the Clearwater Chargers out of Lakewood Ranch and controlled the match for nearly 70 minutes. Cody Iturri and Allan Lewis each scored in the first half and that was all TBU needed as they earned the 2-0 victory.
The Sunday afternoon match saw TBU take on highly ranked FC Florida. The team went down early but managed to fight their way back on goals by Eduard Huapaya and Allan Lewis that were both impressive and well earned. While each player's goal came at incredibly critical moments, the play of the match probably belongs to Goalkeeper Ryan Cooper who stopped a penalty kick in the final minutes of regulation to allow the team to move on to the semifinals with a 2-2 draw.
Monday mornings Semifinal match saw TBU take on the Coral Gables Toros. TBU's bench depth was a bit reduced for this contest due to injuries but that didn't prevent the team from battling hard. At the end of the 1st half TBU found themselves in a 3-0 hole. Obviously Coach Sims and Assistant Coach Fabio Suarez provided some quality direction during halftime because the team came out for the final 35 minutes and regained its form from earlier in the tournament. Peter Andrusyszyn scored on a quality header on an excellent service by Paul Gyorkos. It was TBU's lone goal of the match and they fell 3-1 to the Coral Gables Torros.
Coach Sims had these comments after the match, "Overall I was pleased with our performance this weekend. We found out a lot about our team and what we are made of. I am proud of the effort and willingness to battle as a unit, especially when faced with adversity. Our success was a complete team effort where all 17 players contributed. 4 games in three days is not easy and we will continue to improve with each performance. Our goal coming in was to put us in good position to qualify for the Showcase and I feel we accomplished that."

The team travels to Sanford, FL next weekend to take on Space Coast SC and Orlando City in a Saturday afternoon double header.
