Falcons Claim Third MAC Championship

GRANTHAM, Pa. - The Messiah College women's tennis team won their third MAC Commonwealth Championship in the last four years after they defeated Alvernia on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons were up 2-1 after doubles play and won three-straight singles matches to secure a 5-1 victory over the Golden Wolves. Messiah will head back to the NCAA National Tournament for the third time in program history.

How It Happened
No. 2 doubles Amanda Adams/Rebekah Adams got things going for Messiah with an early 8-2 victory over their opponents. Gabby Brooks and Rachel Marcroft followed shortly with an 8-2 win as well at the No. 3 slot. However, Kaitlyn Russell and Emily Wichert had to battle at the No. 1 position and dropped their match 8-3 to a very strong pair in Amanda Phillips and Ariana Chuprinsky.

In singles play, it was No. 3 Amanda Adams who grabbed Messiah's third win of the afternoon, by sweeping her opponent 6-0, 6-0. Sister, Rebekah Adams was close behind with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Alvernia's Laura Covely. Gabby Brooks picked up Messiah's fifth and final win, only dropping one game (6-1, 6-0), to secure the MAC Commonwealth Championship title.
